As mentioned on our SCVGS “Home” Webpage, NARA will release the 1940 census information on 2 April 2012. It will be a highly educational experience for those who accept the challenge of helping to index the names!

If you have not already seen it, there is a 2/21/2012 press release from NARA about the digital images of all 1940 census pages that will become available on-line on April 2nd! The press release is at this address:

There is an embedded video in the press release that explains preparations for this initial release of free digitized census page images on the Internet and it outlines how interested researchers may go about gaining access and using the images.
