1940 Census Available for Indexing Next Week

The 1940 U.S. Federal Census will become available for indexing via FamilySearch starting Monday night. The first five states to go online are Delaware, Virginia, Kansas, Oregon, and Colorado.  The remainder will be rolled out incrementally in the following two weeks. Further details are available here.

If you’d like to help index but haven’t done signed up yet, you can get started at the project home page, where you can download the indexing software. Call Darwin or me if you need help, or see us at our April meeting on the 10th.

Our club is a participating society for the project. We’re on on the map as one of nine in Arizona. If you’re registered to index but not as a member of the SCVGS indexing group, Darwin or I can add you. We just need the user id (not the password) that you use for indexing.

Indexing is easy. You can do it at home whenever you like.  (You may have to give up a few games of solitaire.)  Please consider this as a way of giving back to the genealogical community.
