Tuesday: David Fryxell on the 1940 Census; Raffle

David Fryxell has visited us twice before, from his home in Silver City. His talks are always entertaining as well as informative. This time he’ll tell us a bit about the 1940 U.S. Federal Census: where to find indexes and images, and how to understand enumeration districts — plus how to use the facts we find to learn even more about our ancestors.

David is an author as well as a genealogist. He founded Family Tree Magazine a while ago. Now he has a new book out, a book of humor and trivia: Good Old Days My Ass: 665 Funny History Facts & Terrifying Truths about Yesteryear. We will be raffling off a copy at Tuesday’s meeting. The first 50 members to arrive will each receive one free raffle ticket. (Sorry, we only have 50 tickets.) David will sign the copy for the lucky winner.

Reminder: our dues are on a calendar-year basis now. You may pay at the December meeting ($15/person, $25/couple) for 2013. Checks should be payable to “SCVGS”.
