PBS has announced that it is “postponing the third season of FINDING YOUR ROOTS” which was to have aired this fall. Ben Affleck allegedly persuaded the show’s producers to omit mention of a slave-owning ancestor from an episode last season. Further details are available in this Washington Post story and from this PBS statement. Thanks to Peggy Lombard for letting us know about this.

Sad to think PBS went along with omitting Ben’s ancestor, and now is postponing Gates’ show. It could use a little old-fashioned backbone. We’re stuck with our ancestors good or bad.
