Our club library has a new book: DNA USA: A Genetic Portrait of America, by Bryan Sykes. Here’s the publisher’s description:
Bryan Sykes, one of the world’s leading geneticists and best-selling author of The Seven Daughters of Eve, sets his sights on America, one of the most genetically variegated countries in the world. Sykes embarks on a road trip―DNA testing kit in tow―interviewing genealogists, anthropologists, and everyday Americans, tracing America’s history along a double helix that stretches from the last Ice Age to the present day. What emerges is an unprecedented look into America’s genetic mosaic that challenges the very notion of how we perceive race and what it means to be an American.
Teri Petty requested this book for the DNA Special Interest Group. The SIG’s next meeting is Wednesday February 17th at 1 PM in the club library.
Bryan Sykes is also the author of two other books on genealogy and DNA which the library already owned:
- The Seven Daughters of Eve: The science that reveals our genetic ancestry;
- Saxons, Vikings, and Celts: The genetic roots of Britain & Ireland.
All three of his books are now on our DNA shelf, at bottom on the right as you enter the library. To see what books we have, you can check our online catalog at LibraryThing. This is similar to the SCOV library’s new one but doesn’t tell you if a book’s checked out. There’s a link to this catalog in the post at the top of our website’s home page.
