Volunteering

Our club is an active one, with many members volunteering for a variety of tasks. Please see which of the following interest you. We need your help!

Facilitators: Our Research Center hours are 9 to noon and 1 to 3, Monday through Friday, but only if a member volunteers to open the rooms for the session. Besides making the room available for your fellow members, this lets you be sure the center is open when you’d like to use it yourself. Contact Joan Allen for training.

People people: Our Programs Committee needs members to look for speakers and contact them to see if they’re available. For the Club Fair, we need people to tell non-members about SCVGS and why they might want to join.

Bakers: We have a coffee break at each of our monthly General Meetings. Sun City provides the coffee but we need volunteers to bring cookies or brownies or your personal specialty. Our Hospitality Chair has a sign-up sheet at each of our meetings.

Visual Designers: Our club has a display case in the hall across from our Research Center. Each display portrays something about our club, or its members, or their genealogy. Would you like to help put a display together? Get in touch with Helen and Bob Jennette.

Booklovers: Our club library has grown to over 700 volumes. The Library Committee decides which books to acquire, informs our members about them, and updates our online catalog. If you’d like to help with any of this, contact Mike Carroll.

Organizers: We also need people to chair our Standing Committees and serve on our Board. These committees and the board don’t meet in the summer, so part-time residents are welcome. See our Officers page for a current list. Feel free to contact anyone listed there, or any board member, if you’re interested.
